Also, could you put a GT-40 engine in an Excursion? If so how fast would that go? |
With WAY less money you could go faster with the PSD. 7.3 liters plus a turbocharger is A LOT of displacement plus potential. These engine can get over 1000 ft/lbs of torque, none of the engines you mentioned come close. Hell I don't they even put down as much torque stock vs. stock. 500 ft/lbs of torque IS A LOT and light sports cars don't usually have that. They have more horsepower (which is just power measured differently). |

| Quote: | When I was staioned in Germany, I ran 153 on the autobahn in my wife's Saab 9-3 Turbo. My 93 Mustang 5.0 (with mods) would run up there too, but the speedo only went to 140. The Taurus wagon with Superchip and SHO wheel /tire package ran about 135, from what I could determine from tach calculations. We now have none of those cars

I just got back from a European ski trip, and rented a BMW 530d wagon. I got it up to 240 km/h (149 mph) on the autobahn, before the rev limiter kicked in and the wife freaked out. That kind of speed can get addictive.
To hijack this thread further (sorry), but when will we be able to buy vehicles like that in this country? We drove that wagon for 8 hours, mostly with the cruise control set on 160 km/h (100 mph), with fuel milage of 9.2 L/100 km (26 mpg). That is pretty good for a vehicle with a curb weight of 3880 lbs, even with a diesel engine. I would guess that it would get around 35 mpg at 70 mph.
Why can't I buy one here?
To get back on topic, I know my PSD Ex isn't even close to being fast yet, but I'm waiting for the 100,000 mile engine warranty to expire before playing with "real" modifications. I figure I can start experimenting with it in about 2 years. |

I'm Not sure about the dyno. As far as I know the only dyno near me was in Albien PA but he is gone now. There was some mention on another site about a dyno day by Gene "Sledpuller" the Dodge dude...but I did not see when it was. I may have to buy a new G-Tech or similar...I have the original G-Tech, but its pretty lame. The new stuff out there looks much better and you can save/download the data to your PC. I may look into doing something else, like one of the high end air filters out there...... AFE Stage II looks like it may get my wifes money next. Im not sure where to go from here, I dont want to do internal mods and Banks says if I push my 7.3 past the current level I'll be looking at head gasket issues at the minimum. I would have considered injectors prior to that.
DO any of you have experiance with removing the inlet air heater element? Does this hurt cold weather operation? Does it make a real gain in power? What other shadetree mods are out there that I may need to know about....especially things that may compliment my current set up? |

Injectors or propane are probably the next step you can take for performance...besides an air filter. Check out one of the site's sponsors: Diesel Innovations. They have lots of expensive toys for the Powerstroke.

ORF, Im from Beaver County. I live a few miles west of the I-79/PA Turnpike intersection. If your know the area, I live closer to RT-65, about 35 miles North of the Burgh. Rochester, Beaver, Ambridge, Sewickley....Im up on the hill between Baden and Cranberry. Im very new to the PSD thing, my Father has had a 99 F-350 CC for years, but he runs his bone stock aside from a superchips programmer that he uses on the middle setting. His tranny acts very odd with it, and he has not even been using it. His convertor will not lock up until 55 MPH no matter how easy he is on it, but if he removes the superchip program the convertor acts normally again. Whats odd is his did not do this for the first couple years, but it does it consistantly now. I told him to scrap that junk and get a Banks trans-command and a big-hoss. I think Banks is top quality as far as getting a proper working PSD truck, maybe not the cheapest, maybe not the absolute most power....but still the best bet for a safe and yet powerfull PSD. |
